Discussing Bereans With a Jehovah’s Witness Elder

August 2, 2013 3:57 pm / 6 Comments / Keith

I pulled a fast one. After the normal, half-hour of getting caught up with each other, my Jehovah’s Witness elder friend asked if my iPad was fully charged. He wanted to show me that the Watchtower magazines are on the JW.org web site. I already knew that, but I didn’t interrupt because I was hoping he would do something that I could use later. We navigated to the study edition magazine section because he wanted to show me that they had color pictures. He clicked on August 1st 2013 edition and I exclaimed, “You can’t do that!” Read More →

Resuming My Meetings With A Jehovah’s Witness Elder

July 22, 2013 3:16 pm / 11 Comments / Keith

I met with My Jehovah’s Witness buddy for the first time in more than a month. We had not met for so long because I was on a mission trip in Utah and then he was on vacation. It was good to see him again and after a half hour of catching up with each other, we jumped right back into our study. This meeting was different than all of our previous meetings because this time, he brought his son. I immediately recognized that the dynamic change could be fatal to our discussion so I had to be careful. The questions I ask are not easy questions and we sometimes get pretty deep into our discussions. No man wants to be viewed as “losing in a discussion” in front of his son (JW#2). Read More →

No Meeting With A Jehovah’s Witness Elder Today

June 12, 2013 11:58 am / 3 Comments / Keith

I usually meet with my Jehovah’s Witness buddy on Wednesday mornings, but not today. I received a text message from him a couple of days ago and he had another meeting today so he wanted to let me know that we could still meet next week. I told him that I was going to be out of town for the next two Wednesdays so we will have to pick it up in July. We are calling this our Summer break.

Please keep praying for him. I will text him every now and then and ask a question about the list of verses I gave him two weeks ago. Feel free to comment below and let me know what questions you think I should ask him about the list. This should be fun. You can help me witness to my Witness buddy by texting him questions. 😉

Part Two- Discussing the Name of God With a Jehovah’s Witness Elder

June 6, 2013 2:19 pm / 4 Comments / Keith

I love it when God shows up. There are times when God arranges things in such a way that it completely undermines the arguments presented by Jehovah’s Witnesses. Such was the case today. My Witness elder buddy and our other frequent guest showed up at our meeting place. We chatted for about 20 minutes before we got into our study.

One of the things my friend mentioned was that he had to leave by a certain time because his air conditioner recently went out. Although Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in hell, summer in south Texas is almost enough to get them to rethink their theology. I told him about a guy we used who recently fixed our air conditioner and gave him his name and phone number. I had no idea at the time that God was going to use that to get my friend’s attention. Discussing the Name of God With a Jehovah’s Witness Elder 5/29/13

May 30, 2013 1:19 am / 14 Comments / Keith

One of the points that the “WHAT DOES THE BIBLE Really TEACH?” Book makes early in chapter one is the idea that God has a personal name and that if we don’t use that name, then we cannot really know him. In my study with my Witness friend I do not want to challenge him on everything, but I think that this is an important enough issue to get him to think about some things from a different perspective. The Watchtower thinks this is an important issue to because chapter one of the book refers to an appendix where the name of God is discussed in greater detail.

Here is the basic gist of our conversation. Read More →
