Initial Questions

April 28, 2022 5:19 pm / 4 Comments / Keith

JW and I met at a local fast-food restaurant for lunch. We spent a good 45 minutes to an hour talking about his background and how he became a Jehovah’s Witness. He is a quirky, but likeable guy. Sometimes he can be annoying though. He would laugh at the end of almost every sentence. I don’t know if he is nervous or if that is a coping mechanism or what. I was thankful that he did not ask me about my occupation. When Jehovah’s Witnesses ask me, I tell them I am a missionary and leave it at that. They usually don’t pursue that very far. If they ask more, I’m not going to lie, but I also don’t say that I am a missionary to Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons.

An Outsider’s Analysis Of The Jehovah’s Witness Memorial 4/15/2022

April 26, 2022 5:04 pm / 1 Comment / Keith

On April 15th, 2022 I attended the Jehovah’s Witness Memorial. I have visited these gatherings for 20+ years. Instead of writing a report like I have done for my previous “Conversations” series, I thought it best, and less time consuming, to record a YouTube video giving more detail than I could in a written report. Take a seat and listen as I explain my thoughts about this meeting from the perspective of someone who has never been a Jehovah’s Witness.

So You Wanna Become a Jehovah’s Witness, Huh?

October 4, 2019 11:18 am / 3 Comments / Keith

I recently received an email through our website from someone asking about becoming a Jehovah’s Witness (JW). I will print the message here exactly as it was written. “how can i become amember of johva witness what rules and regulations are johva follow please help me iam religion less.” Obviously, the person (Esmael Dagnew) who sent the message hasn’t read anything on our web site. I wouldn’t be surprised if the guy who sent this email is the same “Nigerian Prince” who has offered to grant me $25,000000 if I will only help him disperse the money in a legal and orderly fashion.

Still, the question intrigued me enough to ask former JWs what they would tell someone who wanted to join the religion. What would former JWs say would be expected of someone who wanted to join? Read More →

2015 Memorial Invitation-Edited2

A Pointless Evening.

(Certain details have been altered to protect the identity of those involved)

Although I have never been a Jehovah’s Witness, I have been to roughly 15 of their annual memorial services. The Witnesses celebrate the Lord’s Evening Meal (what most Christians refer to as communion) only once a year. Before I describe the events of the evening, I’ll give a short summary of what usually happens at this ceremony.

Since this is the only religious holiday Jehovah’s Witnesses celebrate, attendance at Kingdom Halls for this service is much like Christmas and Easter is for Christians. If you are associated with the Witnesses in any way, and you could only make one meeting all year, this would be the meeting. Parking lots are filled and everyone is wearing their Sunday best. The service starts just after sunset. Since there is limited space at Kingdom Halls, sometimes the Witnesses will rent out public halls or hotel conference rooms. They also have a later meeting at 9:00 to accommodate everyone who wants to attend.

The meeting begins with an announcement for everyone to begin finding their seats. The building is usually packed so they want to make sure everyone is seated before they begin. A very respected man (an elder or someone of greater authority), will stand up in front of the audience and give a presentation that lasts approximately 45 minutes. Read More →

2014: The 100th Anniversary of a Watchtower False Prophecy

October 29, 2014 10:28 am / 2 Comments / Keith

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk about the 100th anniversary of Watchtower false prophecy. This blog post is about a video I did about an article I wrote in our newsletter. Wow, that’s three different mediums. I think I’ll post this on Twitter too. Anyway, enjoy the video. I’ll also post the article below for your convenience. I know people enjoy references just about as much as I do and all the references are included in the article.

Please take this unique opportunity to take advantage of… this… unique… opportunity. Yeah, um. I mean, share it with your Jehovah’s Witness family, friends, loved ones and any random Witness who knocks on your door.
