For those of you who missed the live stream, this is well worth the hour.

Please keep praying for Shawn and this issue. He has agreed to meet with some local pastors. Let’s pray that reconciliation begins.

Rob Bowman’s Report After Meeting With Shawn McCraney

As announced yesterday, last night I was a guest on Shawn McCraney’s TV program “Heart of the Matter” to discuss the doctrine of the Trinity. In this post I’m going to review what has happened and give my take on where things stand at the moment.

Shawn is a former Mormon who became “born again” while he was still in the LDS Church. He eventually came out, went to pastoral training school, and began a teaching and evangelistic ministry focused on reaching Mormons. That ministry evolved into an informal church that is rather out of the mainstream of evangelical church practice. He published a book entitled “Born Again Mormon” that was later retitled “I Was a Born Again Mormon.” By all accounts Shawn’s ministry has been unusually successful not merely in drawing people out of Mormonism but in leading them to trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation and to experience the new birth in Christ. Rob Bowman On Heart Of The Matter Tonight

Shawn McCraney

Shawn McCraney likening the Trinity to man-made corporate constructs like, accountability, cheese spread, elevator music and strip malls.

Rob Bowman of the Institute For Religious Research met with Shawn McCraney yesterday and talked about the Trinity for four hours. Shawn has invited Rob to be on his show (Heart of the Matter) tonight to ask Rob more questions. The shows streams live here at 8PM MST.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the significance of tonight’s show, Shawn is a former Mormon who has recently made some anti-Trinitarian comments on his show. Contrary to Shawn’s own claims, those statements are Modalistic in nature.

For a more detailed timeline of what happened and what was said when, read this summation by Fred Anson at Beggar’s Bread.

Please be in pray for this show and for Shawn in particular. Many Christians, both former Mormons and non-former Mormons, have benefited from his show and ministry. There is a tremendous possibility here for harm or help.

Explaining The Equality Of Jesus And The Father To A Jehovah’s Witness Elder

Jesus, equal with God?

Jesus, equal with God?

(Continuing from the last post titled “Thanksgiving and the Deity of Christ With A Jehovah’s Witness Elder.”)

JW: The word “Trinity” doesn’t appear in the Bible.

KW: Neither does the word “Bible.”

JW: This is something humans came up with.

KW: Yes, to explain a concept we believe is found in the Bible.

JW: Why didn’t the first Christians believe in a Trinity?

KW: They did.

JW: No.

KW: (Laughing) Yes, they did. Where do you get the idea that they didn’t?

JW: When Paul said that Jesus was resurrected by God shows that they did not believe that Jesus and God are one and the same person.

KW: I do not believe they are the same person. I believe they are the same God, but not the same person. Read More …
