How To Start Each Day With A Positive Outlook

April 27, 2007 6:35 pm / 1 Comment / Keith

1. Open a “new file” on your computer.

2. Name it, “Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

3. Send it to the “trash”.

4. Empty the “trash”.

5. Your PC will ask you, “Do you really want to get rid of ‘Hillary Rodham Clinton’?

6. Firmly click “Yes.”

7. Feel better.

P.S. Next week we’ll do Rosie O’Donnell.

Only 47 More Days Until Manti!

April 26, 2007 4:44 pm / Leave a Comment / Keith

As many of you know, our annual mission trip to the Mormon Miracle Pageant in Manti, Utah is the absolute highlight of our year. I tell people that you get so high on God there that when you come home, you don’t sin for a week… well more like three days for me. Becky and I attended our first pageant in the year 2000 and then we brought other people with us from 2001 on to the present. Our teams have ranged from three to 18 people. This year’s team is probably going to be a smaller, but that is just fine with me. There is a lot of work that comes with having a larger team and we could use a break! Just kidding , but not really.

Tonight is our first training session with our team and it is not too late to join if you believe that God is calling you to join us. In all seriousness, this trip is a real eye opener. Every year Mormons come to know Christ as sufficient Savior. Not only that, but Christians grow in their faith in ways that would not be possible unless they engage in outreaches similar to what happens at Manti. Check out the following video that interviews a number of Christians who explain why they come. Becky also had the privilege of being interviewed.

So, what are you doing in June?

From The Jewel Box # 12

One of the things our kids always pray for is their Uncle Kimo who is currently serving the Army in his second tour in Iraq. If Mommy or Daddy forgets, the kids will always remind us to pray that Uncle Kimo is safe and comes home soon. Whenever we see soldiers, the kids get excited because they remind them of their uncle. They will run up to them and tell them that their uncle is in Iraq and that they always pray for him. Every solider we have talked to appreciates the thoughtfulness of our kids. This jewel was inspired by Uncle Kimo.

Yesterday our son put a little wooden stool on his head like it was a helmet. He then stated that he was a soldier in the “Army of Uncle Kimo.”

Important note: We will not reveal the names of our children on this blog. Any comment that mentions our children’s names will be deleted. It is nothing personal, we just feel that it is an important safety measure for our family. If you would like to read the other FTJB entries, click on the “From the Jewel Box” link in the side bar on the right or on the Jewel Box icon at the end of this paragraph. Come on parents! Feel free to share special jewels from your precious children. Just know that on this blog, our kids are the cutest!

It Could Never Happen To Me

April 22, 2007 4:16 am / 4 Comments / Keith
It could never happen to me,
Yet I put on my seat belt anyway.

It could never happen to me,
But I teach my kids not to talk to strangers.

It could never happen to me,
yet I lock my car doors anyway.

It could never happen to me,
but I look both ways before I cross the street.

It could never happen to me,
But I teach my children not to take candy from people unless they have Mommy and Daddy’s permission.

It could never happen to me,
But I keep emergency numbers next to my telephone.

It could never happen to me,
Yet I keep a first aid kit in my car trunk.

It could never happen to me,
But I keep matches, lighters and candles away from my children.

It could never happen to me,
But I keep the doors to my house locked at all times.

It could never happen to me,
Yet I never leave food cooking unattended

It could never happen to me,
Yet I never leave a space heater on when I go to sleep.

It could never happen to me,
But I never give out my social security number over the Internet.

It could never happen to me,
Yet here I am behind an overturned table with no means to protect myself…

I should have learned from Virginia Tech,

But I never thought it could happen to me.

Virgina Tech- College Columbine

April 17, 2007 11:10 pm / 2 Comments / Keith

I am grieved to hear of the events that happened yesterday at Virginia Tech. I had my TV on most of the day listening to Fox News. When I first heard about the news, the death count was 21. Now it is at 33 including the demented young man who decided to go on this rampage. This is now the deadliest shooting in American history.

I could talk about why the campus wasn’t closed after the first shooting. I could talk about how a year prior to the shooting the State of Virginia killed bill allowing handguns on campuses. I could talk about those things, but I will not. There are plenty of other blogs and news sites who can articulate on those ideas better than I can. I don’t quite know what to say other than our family is praying for those whose lives are forever change by this attack.
