I’ve added a new blog to my Personal Blogs section on the right side bar. It is titled, “Bloggity-Blog-Blog-Blog.” Randy and Heather Gauthier are friends of ours who left San Antonio for South Africa. Randy is pursuing a doctorate. If I remember correctly, it is in Biblical languages. Since Randy is busy with his studies, Heather has been keeping up with their blog.

Heather has got to be one of the most creative people we have ever met. She can completely redecorate an apartment with very little money. We visited them once when they were living in Chicago and she had flip-flops and music sheets tacked on the wall. I know it sounds funny, but it looked really good. Her unique style of creativity can be seen in her blog posts as well. You can see some of what she can do on their Grand Tour post on their blog. There are some nice pictures of South Africa too.

Drop by their blog and feel free to leave a comment. The Gauthiers love being able to keep in touch with family and friends.

Don’t Study Your Bible!

I was going through my inbox and deleting old e-mail when I came across one that I had forgotten about. An ex-JW friend of mine sent me a scan of a recent Watchtower publication that is causing quite a stir. It seems like the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society doesn’t want Jehovah’s Witnesses studying the Bible.

The September, 2007 issue of the “Kingdom Ministry” warns JWs from conducting their own study of the Scriptures and compares it to “foolish questionings.” Click on this image to see a larger version of the document so that you can read it for yourself. As you read through it (the part in the blue box), notice how independent Bible study is viewed in a negative light. If JWs want to be fed spiritually, they should read the publications of the Watchtower. Accurate knowledge comes from reading Watchtower material, but reading the Bible alone is “unprofitable and futile.”

I pray that JWs reading this edition of Kingdom Ministry will recognize how this is just plain sick.

Fun At Sea World

Sea World of San Antonio hosted a neat little thing today. They opened up some of the animal exhibits to the families of homeschoolers. From 9:30 until 1:30 we had access to the dolphins, sharks, clydesdales, sea lions, walrus’ and killer whales. For eight bucks a head we could watch the animals and were also treated to shortened versions of a couple of their shows.

My favorite part is the dolphins because you are able to feed them fish and even touch them if they swim up close enough to you. As you can see, I got some really good pictures of the kids feeding the dolphins, but wasn’t able to get pictures of other things because my backup set of batteries were not charged. That did not make me a happy camper. Aside from that, we had a good time and made some good memories for the kids.

My 40th Birthday!

Monday was my 40th birthday! Although we had the party on Saturday, my actual birthday was Monday the 24th. We had some good friends show up, a number of whom who I did not expect. I was honored that good friends would spend their time with me celebrating this event.

On my actual birthday, Becky and I went out to eat at Red Lobster and I had all you can eat shrimp. MY personal best is more than 100 shrimp, but I took it easy tonight and only ate about 60 because I knew we were going to have cake later on that night.

Speaking of which, check out my birthday cake! I love anything chocolate and usually have chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, but this time Becky had something different for me. It was a chocolate cake, but as you can see, it looks a little different.

I’m Home!

I am glad to be home! Yes, it has been a week since I’ve posted because I wanted to take some time off before I jumped right back into the madness. I arrived home Saturday night on time, but without my luggage.

Once we were on board in Frankfurt, we sat at the gate for an hour before we took off. That left me with less than 50 minutes to make my way through customs and get to my flight in Cincinnati. I made it, but my luggage didn’t. It arrived the next day in good condition. I’ve yet to finish unpacking and sorting through tons of e-mail, but I am working through it. I’ll post my final journal once finish writing it. It is good to be home!
