Mormon Student Refuses To “Step on Jesus.”

April 2, 2013 11:32 am / 27 Comments / Keith

We have reached an interesting time in our society when we get most of our news from social media. I was combing through my facebook feed and noticed someone had posted a headline reading, “FAU student says he was suspended for not ‘stepping on Jesus.’I thought to myself, “What crazy, liberal garbage is this?” I am a sucker for crazy, liberal garbage. As is my custom, I found a couple of resources reporting on the same story. I like to see what multiple sources report as there is always more information to be found with more research.

After reading the reports and watching the interview of the student, I just had to call it as I see it. I left this comment on the CBS12 News page which reported the story. Read More →

Jehovah’s Witness Memorial 3/26/13

March 27, 2013 5:33 pm / 29 Comments / Keith

Praying for the bread at the 2013 Memorial service of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

For the past 11 or so years I have attended the annual “Lord’s Evening Meal” conducted by Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Witnesses celebrate what most Christians refer to as communion only once a year. Before I describe the events of the evening, I’ll give a short summary of what usually happens at this ceremony.

Since this is the only religious holiday Jehovah’s Witnesses celebrate, attendance at Kingdom Halls for this service is much like Christmas and Easter is for Christians. If you are associated with the Witnesses in any way, and you could only make one meeting all year, this would be the meeting. Parking lots are filled and everyone is wearing their Sunday best. The service starts just after sunset.

A very respected man (an elder or someone of greater authority), will stand up in front of the audience and give a presentation that lasts approximately 45 minutes. The speaker will jump from verse to verse in the Bible attempting to prove that the only ones who are allowed to partake of the bread and wine are those of the anointed class, numbered at 144,000 members. Since there are very few Jehovah’s Witnesses who claim to be of the anointed (Witnesses are STRONGLY counseled against such claims), yet there are more than 16 million people in attendance at this event world-wide, the average Kingdom Hall does not have anyone who partakes of the emblems.

So basically, someone will get up and speak about how important it is that Jehovah’s Witnesses attend while emphasizing that practically no one will participate. They will then pass the emblems around, watch everyone reject them, then go home. Here is what happened last night. Read More →

Mormons, Homosexuals and the Boy Scouts of America

March 25, 2013 10:03 am / 11 Comments / Keith

Roughly two years ago we decided to give the Cub scouts a try. Our oldest son had played tee-ball for a number of seasons, but my wife Becky and I didn’t think it was a great fit for him. He had the basics of baseball down and learned the value of teamwork, but the game just didn’t excite him the way it does other kids. Becky thought that maybe something a little more “out-doorsy” would better fit his personality so she did some research and found a Christian troop that we wanted to look into.

When we first met with the leader of the local troop, we wanted to know more about the “Christian” aspect of the troop. We knew that many Mormons are into scouting so we wanted to know if they were included under the umbrella of “Christian.” We were happy to learn that as a Christian troop, anyone could join it, but leadership positions were reserved only for those who attend Christian churches. Because of the doctrine of the Mormon Church, it cannot rightly be named “Christian” so members of that church would be ineligible for leadership positions within the troop. That answer satisfied us. We told our son that he could either do baseball or scouts, but we would not do both. We decided to give the Boy Scouts a year long trial. He enjoyed it so much that we are now back for our second year. Read More →

The Watchtower And Lot’s Wife Part Two

March 4, 2013 5:24 pm / 12 Comments / Keith

If you read my previous blog post about the material that Jehovah’s Witness children are encouraged to “connect the dots” and color, you may be tempted to think that this incident was one isolated act of indiscretion.  Think again. More information has been uncovered and it is worse than previously thought. Another graphic-graphic has been found on JW.org, the official website of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The Watchtower And Lot’s Wife

March 1, 2013 5:06 pm / 13 Comments / Keith

This one comes straight from the files of the sick and twisted. There is lot of adult material found in the pages of Scripture. Prudent parents are careful in their choice of which Biblical stories they share with their children before bed time. There is everything from murder and adultery to graphic descriptions of hell and divine judgment. One of those stories is the depiction of God’s punishment of Lot’s wife. According to Genesis 19:13-26, angles of God instructed Lot and his family to flee Sodom and not look back before it was destroyed by God. Lot’s wife disobeyed, turned back and was turned into a pillar of salt. Scripture doesn’t reveal the name of Lot’s wife so let’s just call her Morton. Read More →
