From The Jewel Box # 15
We’ve been getting a lot of rain here in Texas recently and the mosquito’s are loving it. Last week we spent some time in the back yard and got bit up pretty bad. When the kids get bug bites, Becky some times puts calamine lotion on them to help take the “sting” out. Once we got back into the house, our son asked for the “mosquito bite feeling better stuff.”

Important note: We will not reveal the names of our children on this blog. Any comment that mentions our children’s names will be deleted. It is nothing personal, we just feel that it is an important safety measure for our family. If you would like to read the other FTJB entries, click on the “From the Jewel Box” link in the side bar on the right or on the Jewel Box icon at the end of this paragraph. Come on parents! Feel free to share special jewels from your precious children. Just know that on this blog, our kids are the cutest!
Sharing The Gospel With Mormons in Manti, Utah
Here is another Manti video created by Eric Hoffman of One Living Truth Ministries. We were able to minister with Eric and his wife this year in Manti. The picture to the right is of the Hoffmans engaged in tag-team witnessing. The video is below.
Manti 2007 Video
Check out a video about this year’s Manti trip. Aaron Shafovaloff of Mormonism Research Ministry put some pictures together with a song that ended up becoming the unofficial theme song for this year’s mission trip. Every night of the pageant the Christians would get together under a light pole, sing and pray before we hit the streets. Nearly every praise and prayer session ended with us singing this song. It is a very moving experience.
Front Sight Links
Yes, we are back from our annual mission trip to Manti, Utah. I’ve got a ton of e-mail to wade through and have been trying to catch up, but one of them caught my eye and must be responded to on this blog. If you haven’t noticed already, there are a number of new links in the right side bar linking to stories about Front Sight Firearms Training Institute and its founder and director Dr. Ignatius Piazza.
I first heard about Front Sight by stumbling across the reality TV show, The Front Sight Challenge which appears on Versus. The show is on locally at 4:30 on Friday afternoons on channel 68. The show puts four shooters in competition against each other in three different courses of fire using four different type of guns, i.e. handgun, shotgun, rifle and machine gun. In every episode I have seen, two professionals (Police, SWAT or Military) are shooting alongside two Front Sight trained civilians. The shooter with the best final score wins the episode. What intrigued me most about the show is that the civilians are able to keep up with and even beat the professionals. Since I’ve missed a number of episodes due to our trip, I am not sure what the current tally is, but when I left, the civilians actually had a small lead.
One of the commercials during the show encourages viewers to go to the Front Sight web site and sign up to receive 15 e-mails that give you more information about the academy and also includes some tips on shooting and self-defense. I signed up for the 15 e-mails and chose to remain on the e-mail list in order to receive further offers and notices after the original 15. Boy, am I glad I did!
Dr. Piazza recently sent an e-mail that makes an extraordinary offer. For those who agree to post links to some articles about Front Sight on their blogs or web pages, Front Sight will send you a certificate that allows you to take one of five different four day courses. The courses are; Four Day Defensive Handgun, Four Day Tactical Shotgun, Four Day Practical Rifle, Four Day Select-Fire M16, or a Four Day Uzi Submachine Gun. As you probably guessed, I’m interested in the four day handgun class.
The deal is that I agree to keep the link on my blog for three years and in return, I will receive a certificate that has no expiration date and is fully transferable if for some reason I am not able to attend the class. The date for this offer expires June 30th. For those of you who may be interested in taking advantage of this offer yourself, I am sorry that I was not able to post this sooner. I have no idea when I’ll be able to attend my class, but I can’t wait!
