I’ll be teaching about Jehovah’s Witnesses tonight at Community Bible Church in San Antonio, Texas. For the first 15 minutes or so, I will be role playing as a Jehovah’s Witness and attacking the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. I will then spend the rest of the class time correcting the errors of the Watchtower.
We will be meeting in room C130 from 7:00 to 8:30. Dinner is available at 6:30 for 5$ if you have it. If not, please join us anyway.
Before you ask, no, the class will not be streamed or recorded. We are working towards being able to do that in the future though.
Beat me to the question :), this sounds excellent and if you ever can record these i would be happy to pay a couple of “bucks” to download a talk like this!
Sorry hear you cannot video this talk.
I have a friend who is doing some research to see what it would cost for us to get some good equipment to start recording some of our sessions. Hopefully we can start doing that by next year.
This happened before! (Acts 5:33-39) 33 When they heard this, they felt deeply cut and were wanting to do away with them. 34 But a certain man rose in the San′he·drin, a Pharisee named Ga·ma′li·el, a Law teacher esteemed by all the people, and gave the command to put the men outside for a little while. 35 And he said to them: “Men of Israel, pay attention to yourselves as to what YOU intend to do respecting these men. 36 For instance, before these days Theu′das rose, saying he himself was somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined his party. But he was done away with, and all those who were obeying him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After him Judas the Gal·i·le′an rose in the days of the registration, and he drew off people after him. And yet that man perished, and all those who were obeying him were scattered abroad. 38 And so, under the present circumstances, I say to YOU, Do not meddle with these men, but let them alone; (because, if this scheme or this work is from men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if it is from God, YOU will not be able to overthrow them;) otherwise, YOU may perhaps be found fighters actually against God.”
What is your point Juan? The Watchtower needs to leave me alone because they may be found guilty of fighting against the efforts of God through our ministry? If so, I agree.
Keith, this doctrine is the cornerstone of the christian faith , glad to see you equip
christians on how to share it with Jw’s . If Jw’s were more Bible students than Watchtower students of the Bible , they would see this great truth in the scriptures.
Jehovah loves the Jw’s and wants them to know the liberating truth about His Son .
Your doctrine is at odds with the Bible.
1 Cor. 15:42-50, RS: “So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. . . . It is sown a physical body, it is raised a spiritual body. . . . Thus it is written, ‘The first man Adam became a living being’; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. . . . I tell you this, brethren: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.”
gmharris,
Not at all. I wish you could have been there while I taught through this topic. As I role-played as a Jehovah’s Witness, I covered this very passage. Perhaps you should read ALL of 1 Corinthians 15 so that you can get some context as to what Paul is arguing here. Hint: What is the “it” referred to in the verses you quoted?
Yeah what you did was straw man the argument. That scripture plainly states that “it” is raised a physical body. ‘It’ is the body. I read all of 1 Cor 15 before posting this and Paul is speaking of Jesus resurrection as an example for what he and his associates would experience with their resurrection.
Straw man? Perhaps you need to review your logical fallacies. A Straw Man is when one person misrepresents the view of another and then addresses it’s perceived weaknesses. I haven’t said anything about your view yet. I just asked you to read 1 Corinthians 15 and define the word “it.” How is that a Straw Man?
You have correctly stated that the “it” in 1 Cor. 15:42-50 is a physical body. This whole chapter explains the importance of the bodily resurrection. Did you notice the point made in verse 21? Death is through a man and resurrection is also through a … a WHAT?
Ah Keith, not approving my posts which contain a scripture and then a comment or question which is neither offensive nor derrogatory doesn’t make you right.
gmharris,
I’ve been busy with other projects and family life. In order to avoid spammers from posting on my blog, all post needs to be personally approved. During my busy times, that may take a few days.
Please keep this in mind for the future. Rather than assume I am not approving your comments, perhaps you should have tried to contact me to see what is going on. I would appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt.
‘It’ is the body. Dies physical rises spiritual. “…the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. . . ” I dont see how the Bible could be any more plain than that. Now if you want to engage in debates about words…
What does 1 Cor. 15:44 say in the Kingdom Interlinear Translation? It doesn’t say, “It dies physically.”
How can you debate without words? If we don’t define our terms, things are easily lost in translation.
